iPad hires: iPad 5 (approximate) release date rumours

May 23, 2013

On Monday, the rumour mill surrounding the release of the iPad 5 went into full force. Because we specialise in iPad hires at Hamilton Rentals, we follow Apple’s iPad development and release dates very closely!

Earlier this week, sources within Taiwan’s supply chain reported the mass production of the iPad 5 would begin this summer, and that September could see the roll-out of between 2 and 3 million units.

The iPad 5 is rumoured to be between 25 and 33 percent lighter than the iPad 4. Opposed to the 4th generation iPad’s .25mm glass substrate, the iPad 5 will have a .2mm glass panel and one LED backlight instead of two. The reduction of LED lighting and the breadth of the glass layer will drastically cut back on the thickness and weight of the iPad 5.

It’s no secret that Apple has faced some trouble in 2013 already. The American Customer Service Index released their Information Sector numbers for May, and Apple’s customer satisfaction rankings for smartphones dropped by two percentage points whereas rival Samsung’s smartphone CS rating jumped by seven percentage points, considerably narrowing the gap between the two industry leaders. The release of the thinner, lighter iPad might be the boost that Apple needs to increase its overall customer satisfaction lead.

We can only speculate what is in store for iPad fans, but whether the iPad 5 will be a revolution or an evolution remains to be seen based on what the public knows for now. However, we are excited to see what the new device can do!

Hamilton Rentals offers flexible iPad hires, whether it be for a training course, an event, or meetings. Find out how our iPad rentals can help make your next conference successful – contact us today.

iPad Hires: Make Your Next Event a Success

May 8, 2013

Planning and running events is stressful, and usually requires a ton of moving parts. When you’re putting together an event or preparing a training course, it’s critical to keep your information – and your team –organised. At Hamilton, we specialise in providing cost effective iPad rental solutions that keep your event running smoothly.

Pairing your iPad to a larger monitor during your event gives you the freedom to control your presentations straight from your device, whether you’re presenting to five people or dozens. The iPad comes equipped with the iWork app for slideshow presentations, or you can stream videos for your audience in real time.

Tablet rentals for your expo or training course can be a much more reliable source of data collection. Your attendees can sign in or register via your iPad hire as soon as they walk in, can sign up for events, or even sign your mailing list to receive more information about your company. You can save valuable time by creating your mailing lists straight from your tablet – skipping the mess of entering addresses manually in the process. Having the data backed up electronically is considerably more reliable than traditional pen-and-paper methods, which can be misplaced, destroyed, or worse yet – the victim of horrible penmanship.

Our line up of iPad or tablet PC rentals offers the reliability you need to keep your conference or training course on track, designed to help make your event a success. Hamilton will configure your hardware to meet your particular needs and can offer flexible renting options. If you’re interested in iPad tablet hires for your next event, contact us at Hamilton Rentals.

Apple Seeks an EU Ban on Samsung Galaxy Smartphones and Tablets

August 19, 2011

In Apple’s crusade to protect its creative property, the latest in a string of legal actions against Samsung has progressed in an effort to implement a European Union ban on imports of all of the company’s Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

The Galaxy Tab is one of the only other tablets on the market seen as a legitimate competitor to Apple’s reign with the iPad and iPad 2.

Samsung products that would be affected by the injunction, filed in The Netherlands’ Hague district court, include Galaxy Ace, Galaxy S and Galaxy SII smartphones in addition to Galaxy Tab 7 and Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The complaint was reviewed by German Web publication, WebWereld (Google’s English translation available here — not perfect but you get the idea), further demanding a letter from Samsung to distributors and resellers with the request to return all stock back to the company within 14 days, at Samsung’s expense. Acting outside of compliance with this request would be an infringement on Apple’s intellectual property.

“For the record, we mention the fact that by the stock, the offering and/or selling said Galaxy smartphones [and tablets, red], infringes the intellectual property of Apple Inc.,” Apple cited in the complaint.

Samsung will continue to battle for its products in Europe, responding in a company statement: “Samsung will continue to actively defend and protect our intellectual property and to ensure our continued innovation and growth in the mobile communication business.”

Our tablet rental services span the globe, with a huge stock of  iPads and iPad 2s in addition to Samsung Galaxy Tabs from our U.S. branch.  As these developments continue, we’ll see how the U.K. is affected by the results.  In the meantime, contact us for an inquiries your organisation has about our iPad hire services.

Apple Hire More Portable than Ever with MacBook Air and iPad 2

August 15, 2011

Apple’s iPad and iPad 2 are famous for packing the functions of a laptop into a package at just 613g, and with the latest models of the notably thin MacBook Air including an 11-inch—the company’s portable options are growing, indeed.

One account comparing the products side-by-side was presented by someone with a profession epitomising the term “mobile professional;”  photojournalist Edmond Terakopian in The British Journal of Photography.

Terakopian notes the amount of equipment required for professional photography often puts a heavy burden on the backs and shoulders of the photographers. Along with the heavy professional camera itself, there are also pro-spec lenses, lights and computer equipment.

Despite the fact that the iPad 2 wasn’t necessarily designed for photo editing, and that many of the current photographic-centric apps are what he describes as “gimmicky,” Terakopian found he often turned to his iPad to edit and transmit pictures.

The 11-inch MacBook Air was also easily portable, and lightweight, although at 1.06kg, not as much so as the iPad 2.  He found the laptop can be comfortably used sitting on your lap using both hands to type and control the touchpad.

However, as was mentioned before, a photojournalist’s needs for portability are serious, and that is where the iPad trumps the MacBook Air.  He writes, “The iPad 2 is held in one hand and easily controlled with the other using its touchscreen interface. So if you’re on the hoof, covering a demonstration, for example, it’s easier to use to edit pictures and send them through to the picture desk.”

If you’re looking to suit your mobile professionals with truly portable equipment – contact us Hamilton Rentals where our Apple hire lineup includes both the iPad 2 and MacBook Air.

Mirroring Brings Maximum Functionality to iPad and Plasma Hire

August 1, 2011

At Hamilton Rentals, we regularly supply companies with AV solutions for corporate events whether it’s for 10 viewers at a board meeting, or 1,000 viewers at a trade show or sporting event.  What’s been pretty cool for both us and for our customers is not just the developments with the hardware itself, but with the attachments that let you use products together– combining the technologies of the two to get the maximum functionality and convenience out of the chosen products for hire.

The most recent development in this respect has been with the iPad and iPad 2, which you can now sync up to our LCD and plasma hire lineup, thanks to the new HDMI adapter released earlier this year. Whether you want to stream video, a photo slideshow, or maybe you have a PowerPoint presentation that you’d like to present on a high resolution screen, just hook up your iPad rental and your audience can view every action in real time.

As we’ve mentioned before, you can access your PowerPoint presentation using the application iWork, which also gives you access to apps Numbers and Pages.

If this bundle sounds like the ideal set up for your next meeting or exhibition, contact us at Hamilton Rentals.  Your hardware will be specifically configured for your special requirements, and we’ll provide you with flexible rental options.

In the mean time, check out the video above to see the mirroring function in action.  While it’s dually convenient because of the portability options made available by the light iPad,  the technology itself is pretty neat, and sure to impress your audience.

Will Amazon Provide Tablet PC Rental Competition for iPad 2?

July 18, 2011

Amazon’s tablet was just one of many contenders that speculators deemed a potential threat to Apple.  Like all of the others, it wasn’t a force quite strong enough to take on the reigning tablet ruler—the iPad and now iPad 2.  However, developments by Amazon are said by some news sources to be a potential threat to Apple and Google—as the Wall Street Journal revealed the company’s plans to release an Android-based tablet by this October.

The WSJ actually sees this tablet as one to take on the iPad, with the headline reading “Amazon to Battle Apple iPad with Tablet.”  But other industry writers and bloggers like those at TechCrunch believe the tablet primarily poses a challenge to Google, but still won’t reach the likes of the iPad.

When comparing the prospective tablet to that of the latest iPad 2, you’ll see the Amazon tablet will have a 9 inch multi-touch screen, while the iPad 2 has a 9.7 inch screen; the Amazon tablet will not have a camera as the iPad 2 does; and further more, the tablet’s development is going to be outsourced by the manufacturer.

TechCrunch speculates that this could be in an effort to get the tablet out fast, and to be able to offer it at a discounted price to lure away potential iPad customers.  The companies have gone head-to-head in the past over digital books, music and mobile applications—tablets are just the next front.

Where the threat to Google comes to play is in how much control the tech giant would have over Amazon.  Typically, Google offers “carrots” to partners to maintain loyalty—those being Google apps, Google branding and early access to new Android builds.  “But Amazon likely won’t care about those things,” wrote TechCrunch writer MG Siegler, “They could be the first major player to use Android that Google has absolutely no control over.”
